The “Hollywood diet” or “fruit scheme” comes down to eat only fruit for a week. One clear result on the scales but also on health, as this exposes you to plan deficiencies.
They also called this method the “Scheme fruit” and it has many variants (pineapple diet, grape cure …). Its adoption by some of Hollywood actresses dating back to the 1980s, but it had its heyday in the early 1990s with the publication of a book written by Mazel July. This book describes this method and called simply “The diet Hollywood” (last edition in French in 2006 at Solar).
Principle scheme of Hollywood
To allow some actresses to lose weight quickly to the needs of a shoot, they have often been proposed to eat only fruit for ten days. Fruits providing very few calories, but that satisfy a lot of fiber and vitamins; they are supposed to lose weight in a short time.
The recommended fruit can be eaten at will but must nevertheless respect a period of 2 hours between the consumption of each fruit in order to facilitate their assimilation. These are mostly exotic fruit (pineapple, grapefruit, watermelon and papaya) because they are filled with virtues “burn fat” (argument, however scientifically unfounded). Today, all fruits are offered, with the exception of bananas, are considered too sweet.
Some allow a few vegetables. After the fruit of intensive treatment, he must gradually reintroduce, 1 to 2 times a week only a little bread, starchy foods and meat, then 1 to 2 meals per full week.
The Hollywood system in practice
It is therefore the almost exclusive consumption of fruit, and here is a sample week of the Hollywood system: Day 1, pineapple all day (fruit every 2 hours) Day 2, papayas and apples in the morning Pineapple for lunch, apples or mangoes in the evening 3rd day, apples and kiwifruit in the morning, noon pineapples, apples and kiwifruit in the evening, 4th day, watermelon or raspberry; 5th day, watermelon morning, noon apricots, blueberries or currants evening; 6th day, prunes in the morning, noon pineapple, watermelon evening; 7th day, watermelon or apples from morning to evening (a fruit every 2 hours).
Then the following week, he must think reintroduce vegetables, bread and starchy foods to accustom the body to a more balanced diet, plus fish, dairy and white meat the following week.
Efficiency plan Hollywood
If effectiveness is measured by the number which falls rapidly on scales, then yes, this scheme is quite effective for weight loss is dramatic in the first week. But on health, it can very quickly become disastrous!
Advantages and disadvantages of the Hollywood system
But what are the advantages and disadvantages of this method?
Advantages: Since the only requirement is to eat fruit and only fruit, the Hollywood system is very simple to follow. By drastically reducing the consumption of meat and other processed foods, it causes the body purifying action, that is to say that it “describes” the body.
Disadvantages: They are numerous, because that diet is not based on any scientific truth and patient involvement is zero. It involves almost the same negative side effects and that the fast being completely unbalanced deficiency in protein, calcium, essential fatty acids, fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) … The body is then in a perfect state of malnutrition (muscle wasting, fatigue, anemia …), with a random weight loss (especially for the benefit unfortunately muscles) and the risk of developing irritable bowel due to excessive dietary fiber. The scheme remains very monotonous, it often causes of eating disorders, food cravings, compulsions …
In conclusion, it is already like fruits and intestines have “solid”. Then it does no physical activity and can not be recommended as a short day after overeating to perform an action of digestive detoxification. He is to fly over two days in a row!
