Detoxification, or detox, as it is fashionable to call it, short for detoxification – is the natural and continuous process aimed at neutralizing or body eliminate toxins.
Through this process, toxins-anything that has the potential to damage body tissue) are transformed chemically to less harmful components and eliminated through urine or feces.
A good question to ask is how come the toxins in our body? And the truth is that they come in various ways.
Are the toxins that are produced in the body during normal functions thereof, as the ammonia produced during the processing of proteins, and toxins are produced by external agents, usually chemicals, such as pesticides, cleaning products, food additives, drugs, pollution, tobacco smoke, and heavy metals like lead that enters the body when you ingest or inhale.
While detoxification was first conceived as a treatment for drug or alcohol dependent, the term now applies to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body and thereby maximize health.
There are several types of detox diets. Generally, a detox diet is a diet plan soon that:
Minimize the amount of chemicals ingested (for example, through the use of organic foods).
Emphasize foods that provide vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants needed for detoxification.
Containing foods and beverages, as foods high in fiber and water, to remove and eliminate toxins by increasing the frequency of bowel movements and urination.
A growing number of researchers suggests that many of the chemicals we ingest through food, water, and air can be deposited in fat cells of our body.
Meanwhile, a diet lacking in certain nutrients may override the body’s natural ability to get rid of certain chemicals, causing them to accumulate in the body.
It is believed that the cumulative load, known as “body burden” can lead to disease and also has been associated with hormonal imbalances, impaired immune functions, nutritional deficiency, and an inefficient metabolism. Some symptoms of this can be indigestion, bad breath, fatigue, skin problems, and muscle pain.
Some private laboratories offer tests to check urine, feces, blood, and liver functions. These tests are not part of common medical checkups, and many specialists do not recognize or are not considered valid.
Often, people report improved energy levels, clearer skin, regularization of bowel movements, better digestion, clearer thinking and a heightened ability to concentrate after taking the detox diet.
Who should not practice the diet to detoxify?
Anyone considering a detox diet practice should first consult with a qualified health professional.
The pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children should not undergo a detox diet. People with anemia, eating disorders, diabetes, kidney disease, thyroid disease, autoimmune problems, cancer, terminal illness, certain genetic disorders and other chronic illnesses should not be subjected to diet or should do so only under the supervision your doctor.
It is also noted that diet is not designed to detoxify the bodies of addictions to alcohol or drugs.
