Candy Sweet can Lower Good Cholesterol
A scientific paper published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, provides a link between excessive consumption of sweet and low levels of HDL cholesterol. This brings with it the emergence of risk factors that may lead to the development of heart disease. In this study, detailing how sweet can lower good cholesterol and how this influences on cardiovascular health.
Due to increasingly high consumption of sweet foods, Emery University in Atlanta, United States, conducted a study on the impact of excessive consumption of sweets on plasma levels of good cholesterol or HDL.
Until now if a person suffering from high cholesterol, are recommended to control the intake of foods high in fat (sausage, snacks, etc.). But as a result of this research, which found a direct relationship between consumption of sweet and low HDL cholesterol concentrations in blood, the recommendations will surely be expanded.
Sample
* 6113 were analyzed to people who had already participated in a previous study on healthy habits.
* They were divided into different groups, which were fed with products containing high concentrations of sugars (glucose, fructose, etc.).. This represented an average of 15.8% of total calories in a day. Then assessed levels of blood cholesterol.
Results
* Patients who received a greater contribution to 15.8% (25%) of simple sugars in their diets, had low levels of good cholesterol or HDL (47.7%), a figure that rose when consumption was reduced to 5% of sugars daily caloric value.
Ie as increased intake of sweets, reduced the concentration of good cholesterol or HDL. There is an inverse relationship.
Conclusion
* Although not yet able to establish what are the mechanisms that underlie this relationship. It is necessary to extend the recommendations and advise reduced consumption of sweet foods rich in simple sugars such as sweets, cakes, pastry doughs, etc..
In short, the important thing is to reduce risk factors that could endanger the cardiovascular health.
